Monday, September 29th

Good Monday Morning! Hopefully everyone had a great weekend and you all feel nice and rested. Here is what we are doing for the week!

Agenda:

Take a seat/attendance.
Finish presentations.
Group evaluations.
Read pages S2-S7 (1. Define all bold print words, 2. Answer all questions).
Complete worksheet on latitude and longitude.

Group evaluations:

On a sheet of paper, write down all the names of the people in your group and score them in each of the following categories.

Scale: 1=no help, 2=little help, 3=some help, 4=equal help

A-Brainstorming: Did they take part in picking a disease to research?

B-Discussion: Did they help with discussions about the material?

C-Online Research: Did they contribute to the project?

D-PowerPoint: Did they help put together/research for the powerpoint?

E-Overall: What did they contribute to the group overall?

Due at the end of the period:

Definitions and answers from reading done in class.
Latitude and longitude worksheet.

Homework:

All work that was not completed in class. Due tomorrow (9/30)

Class Description

This is a Geography class for 9-10 graders that is taught through technology. There is also a study skills component that will also be addressed in this class. Lessons will focus on presentations through PowerPoint and other computer-based media. Students will also be expected to use the computers in class to interact with lesson plans, complete in-class assignments, and to work in groups using PowerPoint to create informative presentations. This is a Social Science class and material will focus on standards set forth in the California State Standards for Social Studies.

Classroom Rules/Consequences

Rules:
1. RESPECT! This means having respect for yourself as a student at this school, and in this class; having respect for your fellow peers; and having respect for your teacher.
2. Raise your hand if you have something to say.
3. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
4. Keep the language clean.
5. No food or drink in class.
6. No electronics in class. (i.e. cell phones, Ipods, mp3 players, etc)
7. No inappropriate websites while in class.
8. Stay in your seats until you are excused to leave.

Consequences:
1. Teacher warning.
2. Outside/one-on-one conference with teacher.
3. Asked to leave the classroom and phone call home.
4. Suspension from class, phone call home, and parent-student-teacher conference.
5. Same as above, but the principal joins in.
6. If electronics are used in class, they are confiscated, and there needs to be a student-teacher conference before the item is returned.
7. Second offence, there is a phone call home and parents need to join the student-teacher conference before the item is returned.
8. If student is found on an inappropriate website, citizenship grade is lowered, and there is a student-teacher conference.
9. For the second offence, parents are brought in on the conference and harsher steps are taken.
